Show Lkau Poisoninu. l lb slated that at American Fork a number of persons aro sutieriug from the inhalation of the fumes of lead and other minerals whilst engaged in smelting ores. The peculiar affection resulting from this cause is too common iu all of our smelting smelt-ing establishments, but that it prevails much more geuerally at some furnaces than at others is a proof of the possibility possi-bility of nearly, if not entirely, guarding guard-ing against the disease. Of course all smelting establishments should be well ventilated, but to effectually . protect the workmen from the effects of the poisonous fumes of the molten ores and metal, there should bo two di aught pipe-, on the outside of eatli furnace stack, ouo to carry off the fumes from the ag, aud the other fumi the metal discharge. The cost of these attachments to the funiaee-? would bo very lit tie, and they would certainly assist to preserve the health of tho workmen. |
