Show men coustv mails. Paris, Kich Co., Dec. 29, 1S71. Editors Herald: A matter of great importance; lous, as a community, omnncls me to send you a statement of the facts as they have existed during the past summer, and as they now exist, in Bear LakG valley; hoping that through the columns col-umns of your much tleomcd paper this letter may meet the eye of Col. Wickizcr, or .some one else who has the power to remedy the evil we so justly complain of. YVe have the name of having a "semi-weekly mail," running, as it is supposed, from Franklin, Cache county, coun-ty, to Monfpelier, in this valley (a distance dis-tance of thirty-eight miles); thence a weekly mail from there to Soda Springs. I do not know what time the mails should arrive or leave this county, al though I havo enquired at every post-ollice post-ollice repeatedly to know the schedule time, but none of them happen to have this article in their possession, the reason rea-son why, I do uot know; but the arrival ar-rival and departure of mails to and from this place have beou so inconveniently inconven-iently arranged that I cannot think for a moment that they have been carried according to .schedule. The time that our carrier leaves Franklin is so admirably arranged that he has to start just a lew hours before the south mail arrives, so that our mail has to lay over from two lo four days in Franklin, thus our papers are about seven days old before we have a chance to read them. Mails are collected in the settlements Thursdays and Fridays (two days in succession), and generally have to lay over in Bloomington from two to four days before they cross tho mountains to Cache valley. These things have existed during the summer monthsj but now that winter has set in, our mail is not worth calling a mail, for tho simplo reason that we very seldom have one. I am a subscriber sub-scriber for the Semi-weekly Herald and the Ogden, Junction, and for the last four weeks I have received one copy of each, one dated Nov. 12, and i the other Dec, 0, and when the next will come I cannot say, as three mail days have passed now without hearing or seeing anything of the carrier. Hoping that a remedy will bo applied ap-plied soon, 1 remain A Citizen. |
