Show In the Police Court. Before Clinton J. P., (Judge presiding) yesterday yes-terday in the police court, there- appeared ap-peared the reporter of the Tribune who had been violently and forcibly ejected from the court room of tho third district dis-trict court, marshal Patrick, deputy marshal Patrick and a limited number of the irrepressible host of deputies. It was admitted that tho reporter did try to gain admission to the third district dis-trict court room, in an earnest and laudable desire to obtain information on matters of interest to the great public; pub-lic; that the deputy marshal?, disregarding disre-garding the rights and dignity of tho press, under a press of instructions from tho third district court did, &c., eject, &c, with violence, Ac., said reporter, and did further givo him in charge to the police of Salt Lake city for a breach of tho peace. And, whereas the said deputies did corroborate corrobo-rate with their testimony eaid allegation, allega-tion, the potent U, S. marshal himself with amiable nonchalance and preponderating prepon-derating corporosity proceeded to "tell the court all about it," as he had found it out afier he learned of the matter and had seen the conflicting- combatants combat-ants with eyes aglow and cheeks pale with passion. But the honorable court knew something about it, too; ho knew all about it, in fact; had beon there and had realized how judicial dignity may be crowded into a corner in a "scrim- ' mage," for his judicial hat stove pipe plug, good polish had been jammed and crushed and broken, and his judicial senses had been acute to die situation. lie had seen tho inception, in-ception, continuation and termination of the affair in the third district court room; and as it occurred in tho court room, not outside, nnd as the third district dis-trict court was h session, and the polico court was merely a looker od, tho polico court held that tho third district court was a proper tribunal before which the reportorial gentleman shonld havo bcn taken; that ho, tho police court, had no jurisdiction, and that ho should discharge dis-charge tho gentleman forthwith, whoso garments had beon damaged by rudo deputy marshals' hands, even as the judicial hat had heen injured by tho rudo jostling of oxcitcd men.. Defendant Defend-ant discharged. So moto it be ! |
