Preparations are being made in New York for a grand Greeley and Brown ratification meeting on tho 28th inst. Mrs. Simmons, who was shot by her husband a few days ago in Chicago, is still living, though there is little hope of her recovery. Stokes will plead to tho indictment indict-ment against him to-day, and counsel will fix upon a day for trial. The district dis-trict attorney is ready to proceed immediately im-mediately with the case. It is reported that the New York World has changed proprietors, and the controlling interest has passed into the hands of prominont Grant Republicans, Repub-licans, but will not change its present course until after the Baltimore convention. |
