Show EAST I'AXON MINES. , j ( IlcBiiLir CorreiMjii'iftico of tho Herald.! I .Mines of Horn Silver 11111 First ' UUcoverles Preneut Condition of ! SlLiies Plan ol Working Si mid i-lcu ! Silveuopous, August Liml, 1 r 1 - j Editors herald : i At this locality, on the .-oiilbcm -lope of the divide between Kast und Silverado canons, are a number of mines from which large amounts o! valuable ore have been taken, and upon which a largo amount of work has been, and is yet being dune. Hero the tirst discovery of rich silver ores on the divide was made, Mr Barbee being the discoverer, and the bilveropolis the tirst mine located. In this mine large masses of rieh ehlorido ores protruded above the surface ground. Very soon after, the Tampico was located, and the large amount of horn silver found near the surface in this mine, created u furor of excitement which led tirst to tho location of a number of other mines on the hill, and subsccpuently to the discovory and location on the East canon sideol'the divide, of the zoological zoolog-ical belt of mines beginning with the Mountain Lion and ending with the Zella. In the group of mines at this locality is tho Ohloride Point, owned by Gen. Connor, Meader, etal.. which has been extensively worked and from which a large amount of ore has boon taken. Within a short distanco of this mine, and farther down the hill is the Shamrock, owned by a company of which I think Mr. Gudbe is President or Superintendent. These mines are all being worked now, or rather prospected pros-pected by shafts and drifts, and but little ore is beiug mined, although in all of them there is ore in sight. The leading mine of the hill, however, is the consolidated Occidental and Val-lcjo, Val-lcjo, which shows a large and regular body of superb ore. The companies claiming the two locations, Occidental and Vafiejo, started out to settle their conflict of title at law; but, after commencing com-mencing initiatory proceedings, which would inevitably have led to the oapture by tho lawyers of the proOlsoflho mine, they sensibly concluded to compromise their dispute, and the result is one of the best mines in tho district, with an unclouded title, except that opaque mist which alwajs haugs around neb mines, as clouds do around high mountain moun-tain peaks. ! PUTTING THE MINES IS SHAPE Seems to be the present policy of the j owners of the leading mines in the district, dis-trict, a policy which should have been I inaugurated long ago. Most of the j-ma.iiirft ly.cn wopUuil iiinamMii nar. Because of diis imprudent, piddling system of mining, the cost of extracting extract-ing ores has been more than double what it should havo been. In many instances systematic working has been impossible, from various causes, but with the leading mines, at least, system in mining was not only possible, but economical. SUNDRIES AND PERSONALS. A negotiation is on the tapis which will probably result in tho sale of some of tho most valuable properties in (he district. The election for district recorder comes oil" to-morrow. Two candidates are in the field, and the contest between be-tween them is quite warm, and grows warmer as the day of election approaches, ap-proaches, Messrs. Geo. Hearst, Jno. Atchison, W. S. Godbe, Chambers, Lawrence, and sundry others Jroui your district, are here taking mineral observations. Yours, Wasatch. TINTIC MLVfiS, Correspondence of th Herald. j Eureka Cits-, Aug. 1,1871. Editors Herald: Having awaited tho arrival of (another batch of the "short haired" gentry, as per announcement in my last, I was compelled to make the trip in and about Silver City "all alone. Among the most PROMINENT MINES In this locality, which are now being developed, are tho Sunbeam, Blue Jay, and Black Dragon. A great many other locations are being prospected promising lair results to tho prospect, or. The North Star lode, also located on Blue Jay hill, is ono of Tiutio's boasts. There are probably greater facilities fa-cilities and a larger amount of both milling and smelting ores to bo got at on the Blue Jay hill than in any other locality, so far as I have seen throughout through-out the district; tho general opinion being that the whole mountain is one vast body of minerals. What theboys want is a good mill somewhere in the i district where they can have their ore? : worked without having to pay what : would be a fortune to any company or j person for hauling from here to Salt ; Lake City. Millmen and furnacemen j should give their attention to this dis-;trict, dis-;trict, in order to se and learn ! the inducements offered by the i miners to secure both miles and surfaces sur-faces in their promising district; for but a few days ago Madame Humor had ; it, that could they not succeed any : other way in inducing milimen to be-, be-, lieve that hero is a ticld for operation, ,' "a severe application of Dr. T. Williams' Wil-liams' & maker would cerminly draw ' out what amouut of perception they -are deficient of."' This I thought was ! a severe undertaking, meantime probably prob-ably a buccesst'ul one. EUREKA KILL has made itself conspicuous by a uori-erai uori-erai (x;-rcst of certain parties wiiose names have alroacy IfCcu mentioned in your columns. Tho Mammoth still rolls out its numerous nu-merous tons of bullion. The Blue Jay bal b.3S its many developers steadily stead-ily picking out its crop. The Sunbeam -aii bims with its numerous tons of rich oro, fcuG'.ving what comes from a Timic Sunbeam. All the business placs in both Lu-rcka Lu-rcka city and Silver city felt "glorious'' "glori-ous'' over the rich strike they have made in locating in XiiHie district. I next viMt Diamond city.
