Show Theatre. Mrs. F. M. Bates mide her first bow before a Salt Lake audience audi-ence last night to a very good house, as "Pigeon, the Torment," and soon placed herself on excellent terms with the audience. She is a pleasing, vivacious viva-cious actress, with a large amount of power to call into requisition when she chooses, a fine conception of character, and the ability to clothe that conception concep-tion with a vividness and reality that is the secret of superiority in tho profession. pro-fession. The play itself is a curious medley of the probable and improbable, yet is just the kind of thing that hit the present taste of the public, and has a sufficient commingling of the pathetic and humorous, the affectionate and farcical to suit diverse tastes, stir the sympathies and provoke the risibilities of an audience. It is well cast, and affords a good evening's entertainment. "Pigeon, the Torment" will be repeated re-peated to-night |
