"Pot" Ilalstead, as he was generally known, was lil'ty-two years of age, a man of unquestioned ability, high Bocial position, and a warm friend of President Lincoln when the latter was alive. Ilalstead was married and had six children. His wife was visiting a married daughter on Long Island when the tragedy occurred. lie was killed in tho bedroom of an abandoned woman.who has a husband aud several children living.
