Show Deatb of Hon. P. Mauguan. The many friends of Hon. Peter JIaughan will be startled and grieved at the announcement of his death, which occurred yesterday evening, at half past five o'clock at his residence in Logan, Cache county, from inflammation. inflam-mation. When we last saw Col. Mauguan, just after the close of Conference, Con-ference, he looked as strong and healthy as he ever did, in our knowing; but a few days ago the telegraph wire brought . word of his sickness, and, though little expected, we are now called upou to chronicle his decease. Col. Maughan was a man of large brain and large heart, full of generous instincts and kindly' feelings. For years, just now we cannot say how many, he served the Territory faithfully faith-fully as a member of the Legislature, where he was ever the advocate of liberal lib-eral views and ideas. lie wa.s for a number of years, also, presiding Bishop of Cache county, and latterly President of that Stake, both of which offices he filled with honor and efficiency, effi-ciency, lie held besides a con-mission con-mission as Colonel in the Nauvoo Legion, and ever commanded the respect res-pect of those with whom he associated. As a pioneer he did good work, and aided materially in the foundation and rearing up of new settlements; and in all his course through lifp he held the character of an honorable, upright and high-minded man, and a faithful Latter-day Saint ' We extend our heartiest sympathies to his family and very numerous circle of warm and devoted friends. |
