Show Walter Montgomery's; Readings. Read-ings. We have before us the programme pro-gramme of a couple of readings given by Walter Montgomery in the California Califor-nia theatre, San Francieo, fiom which selections will be carefully made fur hi-, one reading in this city. In the programme pro-gramme are named the "Seven Aeet-of Aeet-of Man," from "As you Like it," one of the most exquisite bits of poetry in the language; Hamlet's soliloquy on death; the churchyard scene, from the same tragedy ; Hubert and Anhur from "King John;" Hood's "Bridge of Sighs:" Ingoldsby's "Vulgar Boy;" "the Bruce." written expressly for Mr. Montgomery by John Brougham ; Foe's "Bells" and "the Raven." with other pieces, including some selections from the works of Dickens. Mr. Montgomery has appeared before the royal families of England, France, Prussia and Denmark, and has received eulogistic encomiums from them all. No better evidence could be asked of the high position he occupies in the esteem of the profession, than the fact that two such eminent artists as Messrs. Barrett & McCullough, of the California Califor-nia theatre, should hold their excellent company from the boards for two nights while Mr. Montgomery occupied them with his readings, lr will be long before our public will again have such a treat of the kind. |
