Show SKLK(JTKl). wiiitu: risio mows. From tho H'uVc l'ine. News of Friday, Fri-day, wo tuko tho following items: All duy lon.n yesterday und through tho evening, reports were in circulation that a vigilance! cotutuittoo w;is forming form-ing to tako tho limn Gates i'rom the custody of tho Sheriff and cxmito summary vengeance upon him. Tho matter was talked of in low tones on the streets and in byways, before the deatli of tho unfortunate victim; but when it was known that ho was dead, those niuruiurings against slow justice grow louder, and from what can be learned wc nro threatened with mob violence. While tho recent doings in Storey county aro still fresh in tho minds of tho people, it seems as if it was a kind of incitement to do likewise. like-wise. Precautions have been taken by our Sheriff and his deputies, who, when they took the oath of office, pledged themselves by all that is sacred, to uphold up-hold tho laws even at the cost of their own lives as they will do so. A large number of law-abiding and determined citizens have been called upon to see that tho laws mado by us shall not be outraged. The evils following the recourse re-course to mob violence are known to every one, and without putting in a plea for tho piisoner, yet there maybe may-be another ,sido not yet heard, which may in some way lessen tho offence. In any caso, let us support the officers we ourselves placed in office to carry out laws made by the people. We understand un-derstand siuco that the vigilantes have formed themselves iuto a mutual protection pro-tection society, and have no intention of interfering with tho laws; but will sco that they are faithfully carried out. The troublous times threatened on Treasure ilill appear to be drawing to a focus, and will probably end in bloodshed. blood-shed. The Richmond Company, having hav-ing completed their preparation, have made everything ready to tako possession posses-sion of the grouud.claiuied by them. The Eberhardt Company have fortified a house on the gtound, barricaded with b gs of earth, and convenient loopholes loop-holes to fire through when occasion demands, with a force of armed men to guard their interests. It is expected expect-ed tnat decisive measures may be used t y ooin parties at any nour. A rich ledge of milling ore was discovered dis-covered a few days since, near the top of White Pine mountain, and is the first discovery on that mountain of free milling ore. All the mines heretofore discovered in the base metal range have carried a very large proportion of base; but this ore is entirely free from any base metal. Two men can, with ease, extraot one tun of ore a day that will mill $300 per tun. The ledge, as far as opened, shows to be from 12 to liO inches wide. There must be more free ledges where this ore came from, and as soon as the snow goes off, White Pino mountain will be covered with prospectors. |
