Show H arper's Monthly. We have received re-ceived from the publishers the September Septem-ber number of this magazine, which deservedly holds its position at the head of the magazine literature of the United States. '"Frederick the Great'' possesses unusual interest at this time, because of the present great war in which the Prussian armies are repeating repeat-ing the historical victories gained by them under the monarch who made their name famous through the world, and gave Prussia a leading position among the nations of Europe. There is also a fine paper on the Peach region of Delaware ; aud one of peculiar pecu-liar interest on "The Mediterranean of the Pacific," in which some of the more notable features of the coast of Washington Territory are ably dwelt upon, the writer having accompanied Ex-Secretary Seward that far on his late trip from San Francisco to Alaska. "South-Coast Sauntering? in England," Eng-land," have reached Saunter VI, Part II, with undiminished value ; "Auteros" is continued; "Female Suffrage" is again taken up ; added to which is a number of excellently written writ-ten articles and tales. The Editorial Depart-nent has lost none of its flavor, and the ability which characterizes it continues unabated. Altogether, we consider the SeDtember numker of Harper's Monthly fully up to the high standard of excellence of the magazine. |
