In Eigbatn, Massaeh-setts. the disease spread rrotn a pair of oxen, within two weeks, until seveLty head of the choist breeds were afecte-d. In some cases hogs and sheep are attacked. at-tacked. Even can the infection be carried from herd to herd in the clothes of people, and cattle walking over the same road previously trd by diseased cattle, have been affected. The milk of a cow given to a dog. produced death in a short time. The disease has made its appearance in various localities in Massachusetts. In one case c-xen became diseased by standing in a blacksmith's frame where others having the disease had been shed. A farmer in Newbury visited a sick herd belonging to a neighbor, and within a week his own herd was stricken, supposed sup-posed to have taken the infection from the clothes of the owner, as his own had not been out of the yard. Salt rubbed in the mouth in considerable quantities by a gloved hand, so as not to allow the saliva to come in contact with the skin, is considered a ve.ry effective ef-fective remedy. |
