Parties contemplating the pur-chate pur-chate of Sewing Machine are requested re-quested to read the following from the Sew York "Tribune" of Oct. IVtb, lb7l 1 SHAVING MACHINKS. We have recently had occasion to make aowe inquiries into the progress of improvement improve-ment id ibe inech.triLBUi ol sewing machines, and were nut little surprised do learn that tna central ides it the brtst invention the shuttle a till hulds ita piaoe, thougn many attempts have been made to supercede it. The shuttle, in combination with the needle, is still tbe ueaos used to fur in the stitcu. in the I tad log aiaohiutf, and we hud that the Kn'Wth ol trade is chieily with the shuttle uiiL-K machined. ihe improvements that are taking firm hnld in practical u e are, therefore, necessarily necessa-rily in connection witn the shuttle, either in ttiB detail of the shuttle itseli, or in other parts of the machine connected with it. to oMute tne whole lo operate more periectly and uniformly, and to ninpliiy its use. It is the only machine that has a, self-adjusting self-adjusting shuttle-thread tension, which : works so perfectly that the operator can run across the e&viest seams and sew the finest imen and the thickest broadcloth in imme- ; diate succession without breaking the thread ; and without changing the needle, stitch or tension. The "Florence" draws the thread into the cloth with uneualed precision and certainty, by means ol an ingenious automatic auto-matic "take-up" wneel, which disposed of the slack thread left alter the stitch with an accurate promptness that prevents ail snarling snarl-ing or dropping of stitches, and allows the operator to sew backward, or to run off the cloth and on again, with perfect impunity. Such special provision is made aga:nst injurious weir that tha "Flor- , euce" is ciaimea and guaranteed by theCom-pany theCom-pany to list twice as long without repair as any other shuttie machine in the market, without the slightest dimculty. iivery part of the "Florence" is so perfectly and perma nently adjusted, cjid it has so few joints and points ot trict.on, thit it ru with Lhe ut- . most ease. It has lately bet-n revised by the author, and materially improved by the addition ol 1 much important matter, giving ail tha late, laws and published decisions down to lc-This lc-This book has. up to the present time, reach- ' ed a larger sale than any other work of the kind in this country. This fact may be mentioned men-tioned aa evidence of its superior merit. Its excellence consists both iu the matter em-1 braced, and the arrangement or classification classifica-tion of subjects. j In the collection of matter contained in : the wo. k it ii intended to give all the statute law and the general principle of the coin- mon law in connection therewith, which a justice of the peace, polio magistrate, constable con-stable or coroner wilt require in dischargi ng their duties, or that a practicing lawyer will I need for reference in ordinary cases, or that may be required for the information of every business man. This will entirely supersede I the necessity for reference to the volumes ol i the statutes. 'Ihe arrangement of the work is methodical, methodi-cal, and cf ihe essence of its value, presenting present-ing each subject in its order aud in its proper relation with others. The plan of the arrangement is entirely original with the author, being the result of study and practical experience. It has long been a subject of general remark that the author has, in this work, presented the law with a : clearness and simplicity of stjlo which renders ren-ders the whole alie plain to the common understanding as to the more advanced lawyer. law-yer. The justice of the peace, police magistrate, constable, and coroner will find in this book all the necessary forms and instruc tions in regard to every branch of his duty. The practicing lawyer will find in it, collected col-lected and arranged in convenient forx, all the statute law and decision., with reference to adjudicated ciscs applicable in ordinary practice. The business man will find in it a complete collection of forms required in the transac tion of business. Students of the law will likewise find this a very valuable work for perusal and reference, refer-ence, as containing the general principles of the common law, clea: ly stated, in connection connec-tion with the ordinary branches of juris prudence. pru-dence. The folloTing brief reference to the contents con-tents of this work will afford in 6ome. degree an idea of its peculiar morits. The book is : divided in five parts, the subject of each being be-ing methodically arranged in chapters or ap- ! propriate subdivisions, as follows : Part 1. Of Justices of the Peace, election and qualification, and proceedings proceed-ings before them in civil cases.
