Secretary C'ox today to-day received the following from Indian Commissioners Brunot and Campbell : Fort Laramie, Oct. .s.Jied Cloud and Man-afraid-ol-liis-hor.-e.-i, of the (L-al-lallahs ; itouian Nose, of the .Miune-jous, .Miune-jous, and a medicine man of'the Xnnh Cheyennes, with other principal chiefs, and about seven thou-cmd Indians are here. We had three days' talk with them. They insi-ted on havin-r a trading tra-ding post on the Platte, but will aitree to have it located at l!aw Hide liuttes, and protect i... .No depredations have been committed by these Indians for five month-. We are satisfied they all desire permanent peace, and that the influence of lied Cloud and all the chiefs will be Used to maintain it. The good sent them were distributed yesterday, yes-terday, and they were greatly plo.-ised with the quality and quantity. We leave lor Cheyenne this morning. |
