Show U.Nivr.RSiTV of Desp.rkt. The clo-ing exercises of this prosperous institution, in-stitution, for the past college year, took place in the I'uiver.-ity buildings, yesterday afternoon. An examination of the various classe-! taught during the term occupied the last three days. Anions these classes were elementary and higher algebra, geometry, trigonometry, surveying, analytical geometry, history, bookkeeping, book-keeping, Latin, Greek, French.botany, chemistry, rhetoric, drawing kc, besides be-sides numerous classes in the more common branches. The examinations and general exercise exer-cise were of a character the most creditable to professors and students, giving evidence of a proper conception of the true object of education on the part of the professors, and exhibiting ability, knowledge and the genera! results re-sults of good training on the port of the students. We noticed an exhibition of pencil drawings, highly creditable to the young artibta of the school. The business department, the chemical chemi-cal room, cabbet, furniture and an extensive gymnasium connected with the University, all exhibit a determination determi-nation on the part of the Chancellor and Regents to make it a first-class institution. Chancelor D. H. Well aud Regent R-. L. Campbell addressed the students briefly, and President Young, who was present accompanied by President Geo. A. Smith, offered the closing benediction. |
