Show CORRESPO.XUEXOE. Brigham City, Sept. 21, 1ST0. Editor Herald : On the 7th instant a young man of respectability had the misfortune to seriously injure his ankle joint and the small bones of the foot in the horse power of a threshing machine. Dr. Oruisby, jr., was immediately called to attend the case, lie decided that amputation am-putation was the only alternative, but others present presumed to have greater great-er wisdom than he, and objected to the operation. So the Doctor ct about adjusting and bringing together, to as good advantage as possible, die the injured parts, with the iutentionof saving the foot- At the expiration of ten days, however, it was pronounced an incurable injury and counsel was asked for, whereupon Dr. Anderson, of your city, was sent for. Upon his arrival, ar-rival, an examination of the foot was made and a consultation held, which resulted in the decision that amputation amputa-tion should be made above the knee (which at first could have been performed per-formed just above the ankle), which was immediately done. The young man bore the operation remark ably well, considering the great amount of constitutional disturbance. He is considerered in a tolerably safe condition to recover. I merely call attention at-tention to this to show the folly of calling in physicians or surgeon, and then ignoring their opinions. In this case much suffering, as well as expense, might have been obviated had the opinion of the attending surgeon been received. Our little city ii quietly advancing. The large woolen factory is almost completed; and many other improve ments are rapidly approaching completion. com-pletion. A few ca-es of small-pox made their appearance some weeks since, but were at once quarantined, from which there has been no spreading of the disease. The people are busily engaged trying try-ing to save, at least, a portion of the immense fruit crop with which we are blessed. Otis. |
