Show GOVERNMENT EXPLORATION PARTY. Another government exploring party, par-ty, under the auspices of the Engineer department is to be sent out this season. sea-son. Its field of operations will em-braco em-braco sections of southern Nevada, southeastern California and the western west-ern part of Utah; also of the lower canons of the Colorada and parts of Arizona and New Mexico, containing in the aggregate about 00,000 square miles. The expedition wUl be' under the command of Lieutentant George M. W heeler, who will be assisted by Lieutenant D. W. Lockwood, of the corps of engineers, together with an officer in charge of the escort, a surgeon sur-geon and a naturalist. The main object ob-ject of the expedition is to obtain a correct topographical knowledge of the country and to prepare corect maps of the same. In connection with this all the priucipal features, the physical and geological condition of the sections traversed will be carefully noted and reported. It is generally from expeditions expedi-tions of this kind, that science and the country are benefitted. Denver Keics. |
