Show The Baltimore Sun makes a plea for congressional aid to the naval academy acad-emy In the course of its argument It says The spirit of our people as exhibited ex-hibited during recent years is sufficient I guarantee that the work of building an American navy is not to stop and the government should be prepared to provide every appliance for its development devel-opment There can be no effective navy without good ships and good ships are useless without efficient officers to command com-mand them and men to work and fight them Annapolis is the place to provide both The naval academy has never I received from the congress the consideration consid-eration it deserves It is a most admirable I ad-mirable institution of learning Its location lo-cation for beauty and convenience cannot can-not be surpassed But for lack of proper and reasonable appropriations the buildings have been neglected and the Instructors hampered In their work At this very time one of the main buildings build-Ings which is jn constant use has to be propped up from the outside to keep the walls from falling upon the students Another building has been I condemned as unsafe The cadets have to be quartered in different buildings I for lack of room in the main building making discipline and work as difficult as possible The time has come when this great national school should receIve re-ceIve the consideration at the hands of congress which the Importance of its work demands |
