Show IX THE WESTEIIX FOOTHILLS The La Clsnle StriUe Tlie Onmlin Property Chaiigrinpr Hands MERCUR Nov 15When Mr Schue went down on the western dip and commenced operations the knowing ones smiled and predicted failure Recent Re-cent developments are bearing him out ip his opinions and the interest now j taken in property in the foothills is rapidly assuming the appearance of a boom The Omaha has now become the property of Walker Bros and the fact that such an experienced firm should invest money there goes for a great deal While the vein in extent and appearance ap-pearance is the same as the Mercur vein the values are hisher and the same formation has been traced from Ophir canyon south as far as the hills so soThe La Cigale is one of the first properties located in that neighborhood neighbor-hood and the same vein which showed such heavy values in the Omaha can be traced through this group A shaft in the La Cigale struck the vein at 50 feet The vein at this point is about I 1 feet thick Five feet of this gives values of 10 per ton three feet of 7 and the balance from S165 to 325 I With mill facilities it would all be good milling ore and we are informed that the ore leaches easier than that at present being milled in Mercur The property consists of 1 claims and the new shaft is within 200 feet of the workings work-ings of the Omaha Eight men are at work on the property and they will be engaged all winter working along the vein which pitches towards Rush valley val-ley at an angle of about 38 degrees Just east of the Omaha lies the Ed itor group of claims the property o Frank Jardine and others On this group both the gold and silver ledge can be easily traced A shaft 25 feet deep was sunk on this property last spring and the ore body was reached at that depth The values were low a is commonly the case The owners will probably resume operations at an I early date and hope to obtain higher values before long The Valley View is another property on which the formation reveals the presence of the precious metal Although Al-though no great strike has been recorded re-corded there yet they are in a good location and values have been found I on the property Colonel Wall C H Dignowity and a I number of others have claims in the f same locality that give promise of future fu-ture fame I Another sale has been recorded to the credit of the west dip Mr Clay cf Pits burg purcheased the Alta group of 12 claims The purchase price could not he learned but it was said to be pretty steep There are several deals on the tapis here but the parties concerned do not care to give particulars until matters i mat-ters are definitely settled Eastern men I are the most active in hunting up property prop-erty that is for sale and if as generally gener-ally asserted they intend making an earnest search for the precious metal the western foothills will soon be full of men At the Omaha it is reported that the vein is steadily increasing in values and that the hanging and foot walls are well defined i I I is reported that the Lillian Russell j which is also in the foothills has made a strike but the report has not yet been confirmed I Yesterday the Chesapeake Rappa hannock Delaware Green Mountain I Arctic and Potomac were bonded to eastern parties J A Harris of Mercur acting as agent The bond is for 25000 5000 of which is payable in 30 days j j I The property lies along the ridge at the head of Silverado canyon and I joins the Chloride Point on the north j Jack Green and Mayor Frank Wall nro I I I the owners of this group There are in = dications that a large body of ore will he found in that I locality and on one the Rappahannock ore has been found on the surface that shows 275 in gold I In the adjoining properties the Cum j berland and I the Susquehanna considerable I i con-siderable work has been done and a vein of 72 feet has been discovered yielding values from 1 to 53 So far little more than surface digging has been done in mainly the line of assessment as-sessment work Work on the North Star and the Patriot will be commenced next week I In the latter a tunnel 200 feet has been driven and the vein gives assays of 30 ounces in silver and 250 in gold Tho former has a shaft 100 feet deep which touches the same vein The owners I think that 50 feet further will reach j the large body of ore wi be in I I existence on Lion Hill The property i joins the Northern Light I The drill at the East Golden Gate has again resumed its descent and the search will be continued for wi contnued some time I in this way The Hecla people seem to be meeting I with success in their drift and meetng I dications are certainly very encour aging At last a reason has been given for i the delay in erecting a mill at the mi thp Golden Gate I is reported that there is a likelihood of a consolidation of the Mercur Golden Gate and Brickyard and that between now and May 1st those three properties will be owned by ownel one company and under one manage meat I j Now that there is snow on the j I ground there is some talk of opera 1 tions beginning at Fivemile pass The I distance from water makes work in that locality during the summer very expensive so that little or nothing has been done in the way of development Within the next two weeks the Penn sylvania Gold company Proposes to commence the sinking of a shaft 100 shaf i feet The work will be undf the di rection of Superintendent F E Lewis I and will probably be continued during I the winter The company has a during i offive claims and they are in a direct i line with the Mercur and Sunshine Good assays have been obtained from claims in the neighborhood |
