for the call recruits and they are ordered to come in tomorrow and report at Fort Douglas These recruits are not to be confounded with the rough riders rid-ers troop but a regular cavalrymen The names troop of rough riders listed by tomorrow so I I is said Lieutenant Colonel John H Denhal ter of the First Infantry resigned his commission yesterday BATTERIES TO LEAVE AT ONCE Just a soon as the light batteries here can get ready they will leave for I Camp George H Thomas at Chicka maug Governor Wells received a telegram tele-gram to that effect last evening Of course it will be some time ere the batteries bat-teries are ready They have to be mustered and equipped and that takes time Uniforms have to be had and horses obtained ere the Utah soldiers can get ready However it is believed that inside two weeks all will be fixed Just as soon as these two batteries have been mustered In the commanding command-ing officer will designate an ordnance officer from the lieutenants who will act in that capacity This is accord ing to orders received from the ad jutant generals office at Washington under date of April 30 The governor will invoice to him all the ordnance and ordnance stores which are furnished fur-nished by the state Then the ordnance officer will forward a the number of men mustered In b the total of ordnance ord-nance and ordnance stores required for the full armament and equipment c the ordnance and ordnance stores received re-ceived from the state On receipt of the stores by the acting ordnance officer offi-cer he will turn over to each captain the same and thereafter they will beheld be-held responsible for the property Yesterday was another busy day at the post The recruits were drilling and the officers studying all day The four guns were brought down from Ogden Og-den and the boys were given exercise In gun drill According to the statements of the officers the men filled their places well and seemed to catch on right easily The meals served were much the same as before and satisfaction is given by the cooks The only thing that happened yesterday to mar the serenity of the proceedings was the news from Manila The boys think If Sampson has as good luck there will be no need of them at the front It was expected that the recruiting officer would be able to muster the men in yesterday but the rolls were not completed in time and the work will doubtless be performed today The only volunteer from Millard county came In yesterday and Is now at Fort Douglas His name Is Will T Aldrach and he lives at Clear Lake Lieutenant Glbbs was detailed to go to flien verterdnv and 1rnsen the cot lection of the equipment there and shipment ship-ment of the same to Camp Kent THE HOSPITAL CORPS Recruits for the hospital corps will be examined today by Surgeon General Penrose tIn t-In speaking of the equipment of the volunteers now at Fort Douglas Lieutenant Lieu-tenant Dashlell said yesterday that the quartermasters storehouse at the post did not contain anything that would be needed In the matteries that have been organized The only clothing that was kept at the post was for infantry and this would not do for the artillery However he has telegraphed to headquarters head-quarters what will be needed and It is expected the things will arrive in a week or so These goods will consist of uniforms tentage and the other articles ar-ticles
