Show OVER CHTLUIOOT PAS I Baker City Man Seaches Lake Lin dennan F C Small of Baker City Ore upon his arrival at Lake Linderman on his arrva way to Klondike writes the Baker City Democrat a follows I am about ready to start across the lake the only thing keeping us back being a strong wind I will go down the river with Charles Wise and William Clinton of Astoria They are experienced boatmen and with average luck we expect to arrive at Davvson City in two weeks I gave then 575 to take me and 400 pounds of provisions which is very reasonable considering that boats are selling readily read-ily a from 300 to 500 The price for packing from Dyea to Lake Linderman is 45 cents per pound I gave 9025 for 367 pounds from Sheep Camp to here which is about half way between the two points I did all my packing from Dyes to Sheep Camp I have enough provisions to last me four or five j months I is very cold here now and I j have often wished I was back in Baker Ba-ker but I am not one of the kind to turn alt as long as there is a chance I do not think there is a tri an earth to be compared with this one From Dye to Steep Camp we forded the river five times which was ice cold and waist deep The mud on the trail is ankle deep In passing over the Chi koot summit from Sheep Camp I had to crawl on my hands and knees most of the way There are probably 5000 people between j be-tween Dyea and lake Linderman I do not believe that mere than onefifth of them will get through this winter Snow feU within one mile of the lake on the 30th nIt Ed Darby and party arrived here last as night and they wH be ready to sail in about two weeks They wilj have to build their own boats Jimmie Callahan Calla-han is among the party |
