at Juneau Alisja Sitka has I made an application and soon we will have one there WIi AN AMERICAN ORLiR Chancellor Colgrove Is ar t nthusias i tic inember of the KntKlus of Pythas He believes I it is one of the greatest 1 orders on earth Replying to a question ques-tion he said last night The order is distinctively an American 1 Ameri-can order and that is one reason why I like it I is intensely patriotic to I KMIOO members In addition Ohio has 190 for Instance a she has 60000 kmM I VER ELF A MILLION MEMBERS We are rapidly becoming the leading order In this country The Odd Fellows Fel-lows lead at the present time with 810000 and the Masons are next with 670000 Both these orders are old and have come down to us through the centuries cen-turies They each teach what Is good They embody the learning of the nand dents n-and principles which are as old almost as time but the Pythlans have something more modern and to my mind more attractive to certain classes I am a Mason and have gone nearly as I far as a man can go and have nothing I to say against them but I am In love with Pythianlsm The Knights of Pythias have 550000 and considering the fact that the order Is only 33 years old I think that Is a marvelous growth I Is the only organization In America incorporated by an act of congress Continuing Chancellor Colgrove said when Rathbone organized the order he believed it would do n great deal toward to-ward harmonizing the north and south which had just completed the struggle t of the rebellion There was patriotism I In everv page of the ritual I had l done much toward creating a better feeling between the men of the north feelng I and those of the south and was carryIng carry-Ing on the work THE YOUNGEST SUPREME CHANCELLOR CHAN-CELLOR Mr Cojgrove is 39 years of age and Is the youngest supreme chancellor es er elected by the supreme lodge He is not only making a visit to the grand lodges but is stopping at the meetings tof the subordinate lodges in order as he expresses it to meet with the boys who do the work h this connection he carries with him the unwritten law of the order which they never have a chance to see and hear of only througn their representatives who do not hae I the time to make a study of the work I as it should be studied From here he goes I east as stated I will visit Maine very soon thence to the maritime provinces and back to Manitoba in August after which he will have a rest for 3 time Yesterday afternoon accompamad by his wife and friends he visited the lake returning in time to attend a I I joint session of the lodges in this city while Ir Col roe and Mrs L H Farnsworth attended the theater They will leave for Park City early In the morning and zo east direct from thereby there-by way of Echo Chancellor Colgrove regards Utah asa as-a pioneer state In the work inasmuch I as it carried the banner of Pythlanism into Montana Idaho and other adjoining adjoin-ing states and he has many kind words for the members of the fraternity I here THE SALTAIR TRIP l The trip to Saltair formed a very enjoyable en-joyable feature of Mr Col roes visit i I S U SUPREME CHANCELLOR P T COLGROVE I begin with I was found as you I I well know by J H Rathbone ater I the war He wrote the ritual ind took I I I it to Washington with him ind exemplified exem-plified it on 3 glee club connect ith i i j 1 the department in which he was engaged I I i I en-gaged From that time it has spread I I I until now it has a membership of ESO 000 in the United States and iJIoining provinces I I The order being American is founded found-ed on American principles I has three I branches the executive the legislatIve rances and the judicial just as has Ihls i government gov-ernment For instance the supreme chancellor stands in the same position Ito I-to the order as does the president of i the United States to the natijn Each I state or province which is Prodded I i over by a grand chancellor crnsti j tutes a domain alin to the states In i the Union The supreme jnancellor is I the executive head He is the cpm manderinchief of the uniform rank I and chairman of the board of control of the nsurance feature The Vgitlat i Ive branch Is the supreme lodi e Then I we have n judicial branch consisting of a supreme tribunal l of five modeled the court of the United after supreme eour Unied I States one might say So YOU will note that the order ha an executive a legislative and a judicial branch all working together for the good of the entire membership THE INSURANCE FEATURE Now a word as to the insurance feature of the order It carries at this time over 100000000 in insurance and is paying every 90 days to the widows and orphans of deceased members over 400000 That is a large business nnd the figures are astonishing but they are facts just the same and only show what good the order Is doing mone lineThe uniformed rank is a feature which we admire For instance we have 50000 men who are sworn to uphold up-hold the constituted authorities o the land They drill and are armjd only with the sword but tha insfint the nation is in peril hey will exchange the sword for the musket in I KO into the ranks of the countrys defenders I had a conversation with President Cleveland some time ao in which I mentioned this fact and he wis favorably orably astonished at the information I conveyed to him As supreme chancellor chancel-lor I am command rrhi1f tI this division although I am prouJ to ray I am a private in division 19 of Hastings Hast-ings Mich the best drilU1 division in the world We stand bank for tie one
