June 2It looked for a time after the opening of the stock market today as though the lookedfor reaction from the strength of the last few days had come to pass and the average av-erage of prices was about to vibrate downward again within the narrow limits which have characterized the short turns for the market for many weeks past under th manipulation of the professional traders Prices of American securities came lower from London this morning reflecting disappointment dis-appointment of the British Investigating Investigat-ing public that Wall street had not re snonded with more enthusiasm to the confidence in Americans displayed by the London rise on Monday The New York traders had in fact made up the ir minds that the market had advanced ad-vanced as far as was usual recently and was ripe for a reaction and they worked to that end The gold shipment for tomorrow small as it is helped the reactionary tndency the shipment amounting to only 650000 was sufficient to indicate thrt the price of demand sterling 487 iai not jvt low enough to preclude gold shipments under the prevailing ahnormal demand for gold abroad The withdrawal of a sum of gold from the pultreasury for deposit in the clearing host vaults to the account of a bank also served to cffset to some extent tho favorable effect of part of the shipment being secured from private gourdes
