ns Gooil a Republican Repub-lican as FranU J Cannon General Gen-eral Glimpses at Various Peoples PARK CITY April 6In a conversation conver-sation here yesterday with Thomas Kearns by your correspondent as to what the Republican state convention will do and of political matters In general Mr Kearns was outspoken as to his Individual sentiments thereto and gave an expression of feeling that Is largely entertained by many Republicans Re-publicans in this county In effect Mr Kearns said I am unalterably opposed to any party or man that will be detrimental to the interests of our people the free and unlimited coinage of silver at the ratio of 16 to 1 Further should the Republican national convention at St Louis nominate a man other than Carter Car-ter or a man equally as well disposed toward silver my allegiance to the Republican cause shall end there and should the Democratic national convention con-vention nominate a man who is more of a silver man than that man then his party will command my support That is a plain statement of a condition con-dition that will without doubt be voiced by many Republicans in Utah and our sister states In this western country At present there is no silver lining to the dark political cloud that envelops the Republican day On the other hand Democrats entertain no misgivings but that ample recognition will be given silver at the Chicago convention Already Republican papers pa-pers in the east concede such a contingency con-tingency D C McLaughlin with W Mont Ferry led the forlorn forces in the late Republican county convention here to secure the adoption of adopton a protective pro-tective substitute resolution to endorse other representatives of Utah in congress con-gress besides Mr Cannon These gentlemen gen-tlemen hold that Mr Brown has been as consistent a Republican and has always shown as great a fidelity to the platform on which he was elected as Mr Cannon Who knows but what the Democratic washing may bleach garment this Republican taint out of the soiled FLOAT James Neville who has been down to Mercur to look after his mining interests in-terests there for a week returned yesterday
