Lincoln county coun-ty Nov is in the city and to say that lIe is enthusiastic over the wonderfuL ssibilities of this promising gold camp is drawing it mild For two or three months Mr Short has been sojourning amid the crags canyons and mountains with which this camp is rnvironed and during his stay there he has secured mining properties in which lie has the utmost confidence as to their mineral qualities and he slats that within the next two years this Is sure to come to the front as one of the greatest gold producing sections sec-tions of the west and already numerous prospectors and investors are heading that way anxious to get in on the ground floor in the new diggings as I quickly cs sosslble Mr Short was among the first tot to-t make locations in the new bonanza land discovered a short time ago about four miles southwest of the new camp of Nelson in Eagle Valley district n entlon of whch has been previously made in these columns This new district is one mile east of what is known as the Big Summit on the Rhodes Valley road to Pioche and strange as it may seem one of the locations loca-tions made by Mr Short and Dan Mc Leod who have staked out four claims on one of the principal lodes is only COO feet from the Pioche road over which prospectors and mining men have been traveling for the past 25 years The ledges in this new camp range from 3 to 25 feet in width the formation forma-tion being true fissures in porphyry most of the veins panning free gold at the crass roots and in more than one instance wire gold being found by hornIng horn-Ing while from quartz taken from tha cronrlngs of the claims located by Messrs Short and McLeod pannings would indicate that the gold values would run from 10 to 30 at the sur race QcPA A great many locations are being made in this locality stakes having been driven in profusion for a distance of four miles on the strike of the belt and a mile in width there being numerous nu-merous parallel ledges the indications being that this zone Is an extension of the Deer Lodge belt on Which are located lo-cated the valuable PIckett and Camp bell groups which are blng extensively developed at the present time In the new gold fields heavy Umber Is abundant bUL water is rather scarce Mr Short states that it will not be long now before the new town of Nelson Nel-son will bo platted the site being most desirably located and within a short time water will be piped to the aspiring aspir-ing mine metropolis from the Tip Top prlng above the Charlie Ross mine a distance of three miles The towns is most admirably situated sit-uated most of the plat being on level ground the SO acres being owned by I Messrs Short McLeod Kimball and their associates and already quite a number of town lots have been csoken for by people who will build either residence or business structures The millsite for the new mill adjoins the town and Jim Stevens who will have charge of its construction returned to the city yesterday after laying out the ground for the same and making arrangements ar-rangements for the necessary excava tiOKS for the plant most of the machinery ma-chinery for which is now at Milford In describing the principal mines of the camp Mr Short states that the showing is almost beyond C belief inconsequence I J hb ecl I consequence of which he hardly expects his story of the immensity of the min eralization of the camp to be believed all that he can say to fortify his position posi-tion being for those interested to go and see for themselves The latest strike In the camp of importance im-portance was made not long ago on the Red Eagle vthere a short tunnel has uncoveiPd a ledge in which there I I Is a showing of an ISfoot body of free i milling gold quartz which will run up IntJ the hundreds while on the Comstock Com-stock No 4 embraced in the same Kroup a tunnel is being run to cut the vein when drifts will be run which will give a large area of excellent stop Ing ground As for the Charlie Ross Mr Short states that in the opinion of mining men it is a marvel A shaft has been sunk on the vein on this property to a depth of 135 feet at which level the I body of cuartz has been crosscut a distance of 90 feet without disclosing the hanging wall the whole mass of quartz showing average values of 10 to 15 In gold to the ton while through it thcr > ap small bodies of extreme y rich mrera some of which will run un Irto the thousands in i the 5elow metal I To go to Nelson take the Oregon I SAort Line train to Milford the fare being ti From Milford to Desert I i Springs by stage the fare Is 730 and I from this I point I to Xelson private i con veyanies will cost f4 for one or three pei ons II Arrangements will soon be made at Xeteon for tht accommodation of trav elTS but for the present it would be wire for all going to this new camp to I teJcp blankets and tents with them I ilr Short will return to Nelson to j morrow or next day i I |
