rnd Get Ready For UuKlnchs Counties Bill Will Be Signed Sny the Governor l I Gov-ernor Although lie Wishes That I I the Change Could Have Been 31adc as He Suggested Serlcnl I tnre Commission Will Organize Soon Larrs to Be Printed f t Governor Wells said yesterday he had taken no further steps in the code 1 commission matter and had nothing definite to announce The executive will doubtless consider the matter ifor f a few days longer When approached upon the subject yesterday the governor j t gov-ernor said he had nothing to announce Y at this time I have been catching up on the J question of sleep remarked he and i have given consideration to nothing J else in the last twentyfour hours I was nearly worn out and needed a rest I and took it too I cannot say when I shall take this matter up again It may be within a day or two I From outside sources it was learned that the governor has decided definite ly to retain Richard W Young as a member of the commission As to Grant H Smith and Mr Lee there t may be a question However the mat ter rests entirely with the executive I He need not have sent the apooint ments to the senate at all had he so chosen LAND COMMISSIONERS It Is anticipated that the land commission com-mission will meet in a day or two and begin preparations for business The governor said yesterday that nothing had ben done in the matter as yet but that action would be taken soon It will be remembered that the legis lature authorized the executive to ap ply for a survey of the lands which will be given to the state by the general gen-eral government This will doubtless be done as soon as matters adjust themselves All the officials of the government gov-ernment have been busy during the past three months and need rest for a day or two and the most of them are taKing it BILLS UNSIGNED 4 There are four bills in the hands of the governor which are as yet unsigned un-signed One of them Is thfj county government bill about which so much has been said ani written There was a change suggested in this measure which was not agreed to Tile executive execu-tive said yesterday that while he k wished the alterations mentioned by III him could have been made the fact that they were not consented to would not hinder him from signing the measure meas-ure He will sign the bill within the time limit prescribed by the constitution constitu-tion The point of variance was the question ques-tion of fees for jurors Under the law litigants requiring a jury must make a deposit of So which fee is paid Into the treasury of the county The jurors u themselves are paid from the state treasury Governor Wells wanted this changed so that the fees would be paid 4 into the treasury of the state I wish this change had been made said the governor I believe r 5t would have been to the Interests of t the state to have had it altered I understand e un-derstand that all agreed to It except Warner in the senate As it Is the < jury fees are paid into the county treasury while the jurymen are compensated i com-pensated from the funds of the state I do not think this a fair division of t lees Incidentally It may be remarked that ftc the governor was slightly in error as I L regards Warners objection Warner 11 t was not the only man in the objecting line Several Democrats joined with I himThe I The drainage district bill the estray i bill and the act providing that state If I I warrants shall draw Interest are in I r the governors hands and will likely be signed although there is no authority for making the statement outside the i 2 fact that the measures are believed to be good ones although there is a question ques-tion as to the laiters expediency f SERICULTURE i It was learned yesterday that the state board of sericulture appointed a few days ago would organize very soon Mrs Zina D H Young will be the president and Mrs Margaret A 1 Caine secretary if all reports are true I The ladies composing the board are I said to be quite enthusiastic over the matter of silk culture and will make t an effort to encourage the industry LAW PRINTING r The board of examiners will cause to be printed very soonin fact the work must be completed within twenty days I after adjournmentthe laws which r have been passed and approved This i i i F will be a neat volume in itself The j avamber of laws passed are considerable 1 I in number and as many of them are r voluminous in character the work oft of-t printing is no small task GEORGE HAS RETIRED George M Cannon announced yesterday yester-day that in future he would not be a actor in politics I have had enough and have some to spare In the future j you will note that I shall devote all my I time and attention to business I have 1 done nothing for some time except attend I t 0 at-tend to political matters but in future j 1 I shall watch out for the interests of Geopt M Cannon There is nothing I I r in politics but vanity and vexation of spirit George may not be aware of the fact but several f his colleagues have retired re-tired from politics also |
