Show GEXERAL LIVE STOCK MATTERS Advance In Cured Moats Aided a Local Lo-cal Institution Hog products and cured meats of every class have recently made some rapid advances ad-vances in the commercial markets and one of the results has been to handsomely handsome-ly increase the earnings of the Utah Slaughtering company the institution whicn has done so much for the farmers of the territory by furnishing a good market for all the porkers tney could raise The company has always paid Chicago Chi-cago market prices for the live hogs and by pursuing a very conservative course its stock has accumulated to such proportions propor-tions that it is now able to supply the markets of the territory with very superior su-perior meats and lard for the remainder of the season Of course there are other packing institutions after the Utah trade but the majority of the merchants are showing their appreciation of home industry indus-try by purchasing almost exclusively from the home company which has always al-ways met all competition and sold its products as low as the lowest By a great deal of skirmishing the company is still securing some small lots of Utah hogs but shipments are also coming in from Idaho and it Is anticipated antici-pated that a sufiicient number of the porkers will be received to keep the slaughtering department in operation for some weeks yet Cattle Received and Branded The Union Stock yards resembled the home ranch of some great live stock company com-pany the reason being the wholesale branding of cattle which was going on there On Sunday sixteen carloads of the Ryan Ream cattle just sold by J R Hickman and his associates to Thomas Keogh arrived at the yards and fed over Sunday night and Monday being shipped out last evening for the north The stock had not been branded since the receiver placed his iron on them and therefore yesterday was devoted to that work At Bancroft Idaho the cattle will be unloaded un-loaded this morning and near there ranged during the summer There were 478 head in the bunch Prices Are Still Encouraging Prices of cattle still continue to advance ad-vance on the principal live stock markets of the middle east and it Is very evident that the top notches have not been nearly reached yet During the coming few weeks some heavy shipments of Utah and Nevada cattle arc to be made and a number num-ber of local deals are to be closed up this week weekOut Out on Green Grass James Andrus president and general manager of the Great Canaan herd of southern Utah is still In the city and will probably remain for some days yet He yesterday received advices from the south to the effect that the green grass is making splendid growth all over the ranches of his company and those of the entire southern part of the territory and extreme northwestern corner of Arizona where several of the big Utah herds range The cattle are getting out onto the new field and are in first class condition condi-tion They came out of the winter in exceptionally good shape and the south will this spring turn out some prime stuff All of the sheep which wintered on the Trumbull mountain and in that vicinity have left for the north much to the delight of the stockmen of that section Several large Hocks of the wool growers wintered in toward the breaks of the Colorado and greatly damaged the ranges for cattle whose owners have the primary rights to the use of the country for grazing purposes lllaclcfoot Annual Meeting The annual meeting of the Blackfoot Cattle company was held yesterday afternoon after-noon over 100COO shares of the 200000 shares being represented At the election of officers the following board of directors direc-tors was elected Francis Armstrong Henry Dinwoody Charles S Burton William Wil-liam B Preston Heber J Grant Hyrum S Woolley and B H Goddard The executive ex-ecutive officers will be elected by the board at a later date |
