Show I GROW LOXGLTVED ORCHARDS We have not contended and do not contend that it is best In all cases never nev-er to irrigate orchards in the arid regions re-gions but simply that a we have observed ob-served and very widely too men are prone to water too much to cultivate too little to depend in fact upon water taking the place of cultivation Avoid the error of overirrigation particularly so until the trees come into full bearing then when you want to seed your orchard or-chard to clover and turn on the water the laden trees having thrown their roots deep into the soil will not turnout turn-out by the roots with the first wind a so many pieceroot and overirri gated trees do every year And at barIng age you will have sounder larger deeperrooted and far better trees in every resepct if you properly cultivate your orchard the first few years largely dispensing with irrigation irriga-tion unless perhaps to tide the trees safely over the first summer I |
