Show ANTITOXmE BERTHA VALBXTIXES DEATH XOT DUE TO IT Dr Park Malteit a Statement Show InS Sucli n hhlg AVJiJ Impaaslble The Experiments 3Ia le By Him New York April 2W H Park M D assistant director of Tmcterolosical laboratory of the board of health of this city has given out the following statements in regard to the death of Bertha Valentine of Brooklyn which i wa supposed at first to have been caused by an injection of antitoxlne In view of the sudden death which recently occurred in Brooklyn ant1 l > Sd a4 which was said to be due to the administration admin-istration of Behrings diphtheria ant toxine I obtained from Messrs Schulz berg and Koechel the American agents for the remedy two vials of the ant toxine from ithe same lot as tat which VR employed by Dr Kortright in the case alluded to I have Submitted both vials to thorough tests by injecting excessive ex-cessive doses into guinea pigs and rabbits rab-bits without producing in the animals any deleterious effects whatever Specimens Spec-imens fro both vial were also submitted sub-mitted to bacteriological tests and were found to be absolutely free from living germs of any kind These results taken altogether with the fact that the New York City board of health has employed the same kind i of antitoxine in a considerable number wIt the best of results lead me to express that the unfortunate results which followed in the case referred to cannot be attributed In any way to the antitoxine which was employed |
