Show THE SACRED CONCERT Il i Given at the Grand Opera House Last f Evening t At the Grand opera house last night twos given the first of a series of sacred I concerts by Wlllard Weihe and the Salt Lake Philharmonic orchestra These have been looked forward to with pleasure pleas-ure by those who knew of Mr Welhes flntenuons in this direction and the en 1 itertalninent given last evening more than S satisfied their expectations The pro gramme > was a choice one and of agreeable agree-able length with tout a few moments interval in-terval between each selection The opening open-ing overture Ungarische Lustplel a Eprited movement by Kelar Bela was skillfully rendered by the entire orchestra traSir H Ensign followed with a vocal Section of Bucks The Creole Lover His Interpretation was a pleasing one though he appeared to be laboring under the disadvantage of a cold T Michaelis descriptive overture The Forge in the Forest was a mst taking selection the clear striking of the anvil blending harmoniously with a beautiful animated movement calling ieautul amt mveent clng forth great appreciation and applause from the audience which was not to be satisfied till a repetition had been given A very enjoyable feature of the entertainment enter-tainment was the clarionet solo by Mr Ernest Nichols with piano accompaniment accompani-ment His rendering of Sonambula was hoiSt accurate and expressive but especially praiseworthy was his rendition rendi-tion or Moores beautiful old melody Believe me of all those endearing young charms S Ms Lizzie ThomasEdwards Although Buffering from a slight Indisposition has seldom been heard to get advantage Ins ad of the expected Ave Maria phe save Strelezkis Day Dream which a eminently in accord t her clear sympathetic voioa Prof Kroura accompanied panied on the piano with a violin obli eato by Mr Welhe 0 There was a very fair attendance but still entertainment sot as large deserved as the met of the |
