Show THREE our OF FOUR DEAD Terrible Experience of a Party of Miners In Alaska k Seattle Wash Aug 31 Advices from Dawson state that F C Gilbert has arrived there from Fort Yukon with news of the death of three members mem-bers of a San Francisco party of four who wintered on the Black river a tributary of the Porcupine Four men E F Amstor Herbert Earl J B McDonald and C D Whit more known as the Amstor party of San Francisco left Fort Yukon last fall for th Black river to prospect They got up the river about 100 miles when winter overtook them and they were compelled to go into winter quarters All four became sick with the scurvy and before the river opened three of them had died The surviving member of the party C D Whitmore managed to rig up a boat and drift down the river He was found and taken in by some fishermen at the mouth of the Porcupine In a most helpless condition and was sent to the hospital at Circle City where he is now doing fairly well |
