Show TALK ABOUT A SANI JUSE J SCAE S SALT LAKE COUNTY FRUIT GROWERS MEET Secretary Wright of State Board of Horticulture Tells About Work of the Pest In Weber County The meeting of the Salt Lake County Fruit Growers association called fort yesterday afternoon in the office of tha board of county commissioners was sparsely attended 11 N Cole was in the chair The object of the meeting was to hear a talk from Secretary i Wright of the state board of horticulture horticul-ture relative to the appearance of the San Jose scale in orchards in the northwestern north-western part of Weber county Mr Wright stated that the scale had unquestionably made its appearance but he did not believe there was any necessity for serious alarm on the part of fruit growers generally He impressed im-pressed on his hearers the necessity for immediately reporting to County Fruit Tree Inspector Sorenson the presence of any suspicious insects in their orchards or-chards Wherever possible Mr Wright urged that samples of the suspects be sent to the inspector so that he might be able to determine at once whether or not it was the San Jose scale So far as known the past is confined to a narrow belt in Weber county but the statE board is going to take all proper precautions pre-cautions If it is deemed necessary a rigid quarantine will be placed in effect on the infested district and such other steps taken as will effectually stamp out the evil The regular quarterly meeting of the state board which is scheduled to be held in Salt Lake on Monday will be adjourned to Weber county and the members will make a personal examination > of the orchards where the scale has appeared Those present yesterday listened to I Mr Wrights remarks with every evidence evi-dence of careful attention When he had finished Mr Cole talked about the scale and about orchard pests generally gener-ally An adjournment was then taken until the first Saturday in November |
