Show I THE LONG LOST GOLD MINE Believed to Have Been Found i Ferguson Canyon A few days ago it was mentioned in these columns that there was reason to believe that a longlost mine had been found near the mouth of Ferguson I nr i OKerl son canyon in Big Cottonwood and also that it was on the group of claims owned by the Gold Point Mining com pan that the discovery had been made The story of the original discovers was an interesting one and dated back to the early days when rock was being quarried for the construction of the I magnificent temple that adorns our Beautiful city I In those days it was not permissible i to mine for the precious metals as It i was food that the people needed not wealth for without the necessities of life the early pioneers would have been like the merchant in the desert who would have given any number of jewels jew-els for one drink of water aid one loaf of bread I According to the story as spread before Herald readers a few days ago one of the men who were working In the canyon at the time mentioned above discovered a body of very rich gold are but acting on instuctions he covered over the find so that no one would bt able to find it again and even he after a lapse of many years was not able to point out the exact locality and his son to whom he had confided the secret of the discovery dis-covery had never beon to the spot As stated above the owners of the Gold Point have every reason to believe be-lieve that the bonanza was located on its1 ground and after careful prospecting prospect-ing the relic of an old dump was found and it is here that the management decided de-cided to search for the hidden treasure Early Sunday morning three of the members of the company left the city bound for the mouth of Big Cottonwood Cotton-wood the pbject of the trip being to find out for themselves if there was any truth in the reported find and if I it was so that the bonanza of gold ore I wa embraced in the group in which they were interested The party returned home the same f 1 gea3 night and from their selfsatisfied demeanor de-meanor it was evident that the trip had not been a fruitless one Since the Sunday excursion the wealth seekers have been very reticent regarding the results of the visit but it has been learned that assays obtained i ob-tained from the ore that the boys brought back with them showed gold values of 400 per ton and one of the party reluctantly admitted to a reporter re-porter for The Herald that the ledge of pay ore was nearly a foot In width and that the company was well satisfied satis-fied with the outlook and also that the lost mine had been found A meeting of the directors of the company was hold yesterday but it was not learned what action was taken regarding the good luck that had befallen be-fallen that body but it is stated that a force of men has been put to work in thedevelopment of the new find or rediscovery re-discovery and that it is more than likely that the Gold Point will soon be on a dividendpaying basis Among those who are interested in the Gold Point are Jack May C A Short and Joe Smith I is a well known fact that gold E > v I abounds near the mouth of Big Cottonwood Cot-tonwood as well as at Gold City in Little Cottonwood and i is therefore I believed that I will not be long now before something of a showing will be I made In both localities |
