Show MINERS MUST HAVE HELP Otherwise Many of Those On Xotze bue Sound Will Perish Seattle Wash July 22From the steamer Brunsicks paengms just arrived here from Alaska it is i learned that a passenger is on his WilY from Kotzebue sound to Washington D C in behalf ot 1000 miners said to be stranded In the KotzebuC district He will ask the government to send revenue cutters to Kotzebue sound and he is provIded witi proof that un less government help is given many lives will be lost Twelve hundred people went Into the Kotzebue country last year well out fitted for the search for gold Two hundred succeeded in getting over the snow last winter Many died en route There are nOw nearly 1000 people on the shore of the sound waiting for a chance to come home No merchant vessels will run to that district this year and the whalers which can in there for fresh water will not take passengers If the miners had the means of getting get-ting home it is doubtful if they could buy their passage Many of them have been sick with scurvy and are going to float down the several streams running run-ning into the sound with the Intention of waiting for government help |
