Show SAY THE M IS IMMOA INJUNCTION IN SAN FRANCISCO AGAINST THE TURTLE Efforts Made to Prevent Its Production Produc-tion at the California Theatre The Disrobing Scene San Francisco June 12The Mac Donough Estate company which owns the building In which the California theatre is located this afternoon applied ap-plied for a writ of Injunction restraining restrain-ing the production of the play known as The Turtle The petitioners allege that the production pro-duction is immoral and will injure the good name and subsequent business ot the house if the managers continue to produce it on the stage of the house The action of the MacDonough peopla was doubtless brought about by the scathing newspaper criticisms of the play the chief feature of which is thi widely advertised disrobing scene The application was presented to Judge Dangerfield who granted a temporary tem-porary injunction Just before the hour for the theatrical theatri-cal performance the injunction was modified by Superior Judge HibbarJ before whom the temporary injunction was made returnable to permit the W production of the play known as The Turtle this evening provided no lewd or immoral scenes or passages were presented The management claimei to have cut the piece so that it Is quite presentable The criticisms and injunction proceedings pro-ceedings had the effect of packing the house but the general verdict of the audience was that the restraining petition pe-tition was farfetched Not a few pronounced it a ruse in the interests of the management to draw attention to the play and the theatre |
