Ordered a Usual 1Eajor Hooper Will e Here To dayNevins Rtsnd Ar I zily Rate D orlidNotes Much interest centers In the coming meeting of the directors of the Oregon Short Line which occurs on the 12th lay of the coming month Toward it all eyes in the western railway word < will be turned Tht3e who expect a declaration that the Union Pacific has acqiiired possession of the same are eagerly waiting for the consummation of their hones Those who do not arC waiting for the chance to say I told you so Another cass those who would b affected by a change to th extent of losing their positions are looking forward with a small degree of trepidation The Herald has predicted aH through the light which has been madefor It was a fghtthat the Union Pacific would not secure the Short Line that it wIll continue in the future an inde w1 contnue l penrlent system There seems to be no reason for a change of qpinion That I the next meeting of the director will make a statement bearIng on the matter mat-ter seems to be certain I will either he announced that the Union Pacific that It has has regained possession or i not notThe signs of the times an point to a igs continuance of the present policy Con I tract for material and equipment which could have waited had there been any reason for believing a change was going to be made have been let Important changes which would have been left unmade have been made and the present management of the Short Line has been lett as free as i there was nothing going to be undertaken II under-taken Railway men say this augurs well because had there been a change contemplated con-templated thee contracts and Chal1ges would have been withheld in order that the new management might have taken tak-en the maters in hand The expenditure expendi-ture of money would have been ordered stayed so that the nev heads might have a say But no acton of this kind has been taken No hint has ben received re-ceived from the east Not an official has been given the smallest bit of Information in-formation concerning any such probable prob-able ton as is contemplated I this prognostication is true it will cause great satisfaction among the shippers and business men of this state Since the segregation the peoI pie of 1tah have taken a great interest in te Short Line have come to regard 1 re-gard it as a piece of property in which I they wer interested Its officers were locate here it has been managed here J and by the bringing of headqUarters 1 here several hundred families have i been added to the population of the state The opening of the Ogden gate WaY has given an impetus to business and crated a competition unknown before be-fore Trade has bten diverted to new cannels and the effect has been a I splendid one To have the Short Line revert back to the old management would be regarded as has beer remarked re-marked a nothing short of a calamIty I calam-Ity I would throw out of employment a lot of men who have come here t live would make of this city an Unimportant un-important station on a line whose headquarter and business were managed man-aged a thousand miles away and would be a bad piece of work all around I will be gratifying when the announcement an-nouncement comes that the question has been settled for it will relieve the minds of all interested in keeping matters mat-ters as they now are and will put a top to thl exultngs of those who want to see the old conditions restored I the Short Line is maintained as an independent system it will not belong be-long before there is a road to the coast I via the southern route I a change is made the people down in DIxie may walt in van for the whistle of the engine unless perChance the Western takes a notion to build I BOARD OF EDUCATION i Simon Bamberger Chosen to Suc I I ceed
