Show APPLICATIONS FOR DISCHGE War Departmentsexidz Instructions to Commanding Officers Washington Sept 2 Assistant Adjutant Ad-jutant General Ward who it directly in charge of the enlisted sqrice at the war department has dispatched the following fol-lowIng telegram to the commanding of fleets of the military camps and departments The war department ls overrun with applicants for discharges of enlisted men from members of congress governor gover-nor of states mayors of cites friends relatives and others The acting secretary sec-retary of war desires that you issue general orders today toyour command calling attention to pargaphs 762 and 765 army regulations and to the fact I that the war department will not entertain en-tertain Ipplcatins for discharge ex ceptng they reach it through military I channels Colonel Ward has alsD found itneces sao to send the following instructions by telegraph to hasten action under thIs order The department is advised that commanding officers are holding back applications of enlisted men for discharge dis-charge Acting secretary of war directs di-rects that you instruct all company troop bater and regimental commanders com-manders of your command by telegraph tele-graph that such cases must be forwarded for-warded immediately approved or disapproved dis-approved as provided in army regulations I regula-tions 765 through regular military channels for acton of war department Asknowledge receipt and report acton ac-ton tonI is probable that the war department depart-ment was inspired to hasten the acton of the department commanders in these eases qy reason of the numerous inquiries inqui-ries received at the department of late from prominent persons including senators sen-ators and representatives for information informa-tion as to its Intentions respecting ap plcatons of soldiers for dIscharge which have not yet been received |
