Show A LVESTOCK BULLETIN Reports Are Favorable But Danger I Not Past The National Livestock association with headquarters at Denver has issued is-sued a bulletin dated Mach 3 The opening paragraph of the bulletin says These reports Include almost the entire west and cover loss from winter weather and storms together with general gen-eral conditions for the spring Owing to the Incomplete condltpn of this work i was not Intended 10 maIm pUbI lie results until later but as there have been conflicting reports ubiished many eonfcUng report ublshed and these headquarters arc besiege I with inquiry for facts i Is thought best to publish information thus far received I is well to state however that while reports up to this time are much more favorable than generally expected the danger period Is not over WIllIe most of the cattle have winter well the winter has been of unusual severity and while losses are light thus far the cattle are as a rule very weak and in poor condition to withstand severe se-vere storms of the spring One of the worst features in e outlook Is the outlok scarcity of forage reported from many districts Very early grass 15 an absolute abso-lute necessity to keep many of the cat tie alive The reports from Idaho Utah and Wyoming are asfolows IdahQAs a rul stock have wintered win-tered fairly wen Losses abut 2 percent per-cent Sheep have also wintered well and there Is plenty o hay to last through to grass Everything but horses were on feed All report a scat city of old steers UtaTe wInter was not unusu ally severe on catte and where the cattle and sheep were in goo Condition there has been the minimum loss Sheep loss heavy In some sections Majority of reports show fewer cattle and sheep on feed than a year ago Cattle care reported re-ported 40 to 50 cents hIgher than a year ag and muttons 25 cents higher on better grades Reports IndIcate a scarcity scar-city of 3yearold steers but more twos and yearlings Very few for sale in the spring On the whole wInter has been remarkably god for stock WyomlngReport very conflicting but all agree that up to date losses I have ben above the aerage probably as high as 10 per cent Some sections i report cattle very weal and feed scarce vhie o hers report all cattle being carEd for but fear of losses in larch Sheep0s much heavIer than c tte losses probably 15 per cent to date All sradesofcattle are scarce |
