Show oad prohibition the railroad companies have given another evidence ol at their appreciation of the value of prohibition as a means ot of preserving order As a a result of at the strikes of the coal miners trouble Is apprehended at mt ML pleasant and coal run to facilitate the preservation of oc order the railroad companies have issued orders that no intoxicating liquors will be received for shipment to these towns of course bourse in this matter the rail roads have assumed an authority that does docs not belong to them the railroads are not the parties to determine whether liquor shall be sold at any point or not the railroads are common carriers and are bound by law to carry any ally mee bandise offered to them the matter of decad where and when liquor shall be sold belongs to the public authorities and not to the railroad companies but the railroad companies have been so long accustomed to governing the country that it t probably never occurred to them that that they they were assuming powers which belonged to some same one else nevertheless their action Is an inter esting and valuable testimony to the efficacy of prohibition in preventing disorder these railroad companies evidently do not believe that prohibition increases drunkenness toi for it Is drunkenness they wish to prevent they evidently dt de not believe that prohibition dont prohibit for it they did they would not lose the profit pro fit on freight they evidently dont don t believe that prohibition increases law breaking for it Is law breaking on the part ot of the miners they wish to avoid taken altogether this unlawful action on the part of the railroad companies Is one of the strongest and most unanswerable arguments in favor of prohibition and one which will gi give ve some people some game to think about the new era i |
