Show NATIONAL L GUARD DfstR ffRS J J j NELSON AND D3S SHAZO WEEE 1 1 WRE ARREST Captured By a S tate Militia Detail Made to Give Up Their Uniforms and Released I develops now that the national guqrd gavevdeserters Bert De Shazo and Albert Nelson aturn before it was known that they had so unceremoniously left the cavalry at the Presidio The boys were deserters from the national guard as well as the regular army and had their uniforms uni-forms when they returned from San Francisco The officers decided to recover re-cover them and detailed a squad from company B to find and arrest the men Accordingly a week ago yesterday Nelson Nel-son was taken into custody fa the corner of Second South and State streets by the guardsmen He gave up his uniform and for some reason or other the case of desertion de-sertion frOm the guard was dropped Ihe same with De Shazo The detail had him in custody out near theold copper plant the same night ahd securing his uniform < allowed him to depart in peace The alow states soldiers acted Innocently in the matter not knowingJ the facts and when on Monday It became known to the recruiting re-cruiting officers that the guard had had the men they wanted so muob there w sweeping s-weeping and wailing and gnashing of teeth But De Shazo had flown Nelson as has been published was later turned over to the officers by his sister and dishonorably dis-honorably discharged Private ElMns anther deserter likewise like-wise met with the guardsmen He never was arrested but ln > apparel was recovered recov-ered in a dive on state i eta x3c the fourth man was seen in the city but could not be apprehended 0 |
