Show ABATE THE NUISANCE To the Editor of The Herald A great deal is said from time to time by the health commissioner and others concerning the foul catch basins In the paved district of our beautiful city They declare them to be a nuisance and a disgrace dis-grace to the city Furthermore the council I coun-cil at its last meeting was requested by the commissioner to abate the nuisance at its earliest convenience We wish the health commissioner would visit that section of the city between Seventh and Eighth East and Second and I Third v South streets through which the uncovered canal flows There he would undoubtedly behold floating upon its foul waters dead chickens rats dogs etc etc all in an advanced stage of decomposition decom-position These finally find a lodging place somewhere and when the water Is turned out of the canal the stench arising from this corruption is not only a disgrace dis-grace to the city but Is one of the greatest great-est breeders of contagious diseases In our midst Residents and taxpayers have repeatedly repeated-ly asked and petitioned for the abatement of this unwholesome and unnecessary nuisance nui-sance but withom success Let something some-thing be done In this locality at once RESIDENT AND TAXPAYER |
