Show FOUL BROOD AND ITS effects beo bee raisers visited chow to cure foul brood editor CLIPPER in fulfilment fulfillment of my promise to lo write a few words about bees and foul brood I 1 now address you since writing you before I 1 have been inquiring among the bee keepers of bountiful to as ascertain certin whether it will he be practical to take the bees of the town on shares in doing so BO I 1 have had the of cramin ing a number of hives in which the bees have died during the past winter anti and have found foul brood from one end of the town to the other in every instance tile the hives bives have been left open and the honey from around the foul brood carried aay 9 thus insuring a thorough scattering of the disease among fill all the living swarms of the town surel surely somene thing should be do done to rid the community of this fatal and cont contagious contag ageous bee ailment I 1 find also many who say oh no there is no foul brood about my bees and these same persons do not know what foul brood is nor what it looks like in several instances I 1 took the comb up tip opened tile cells containing the remains of decaying brood and exhibited the rolton jellylike jelly like substance to the owners so that were convinced beyond a doubt that their boos bees lad had died of this the most common and most fa fatal al d disease known to bee keepers I 1 found a number of persons who a few years ago owne and cared for from fifty to one hundred colonies and who unanimously agree that it was a profitable business but who ID now have but three or four swarms and some even none at all this great stagnation and lack of interest in what was once and ought low to be a thrifty industry is directly traceable to the ravages of foul brood if every person keeping bees could tell foul brood when he saw it and would then apply the remedies given below one or two seasons won would ld perhaps put an end to this but as only a few people have a practical know legde or care to get one it seems the only way out of the trouble is for the county court to appoint an inspector who onder sanda the disease and how to destroy it then let him begin the work without delay it is of the greatest importance that aliis matter be attended to at I 1 once as the bees during the next month or six six weeks will not be gathering much honey and during this time can lie he examined with comparative para tive ease to what they can after the honey season begins VOW NOW at AS TO CURING FOUL DROOD BROOD will say that I 1 have tested tho re given below and can warrant it a sure cure at one lima I 1 took twelve colonies two of 01 which were so week that they died through the starvation necessary to cure the disease the others were found to be perfectly free from any sign of disease at another time I 1 took twenty colonies applied the he remedy and all came out free from these experiments my conf confidence idenie in it receipt was wag thoroughly established for the past eight years I 1 have used it when ever ac casion required with satisfaction the receipt is as follows prepare an entirely new hive lift out the frames from the old hive one at a time lime and shake or brush the bees into the new one when all tile the bees have been thus changed shut them up for thirty six bou hours rs then open the passage t way so that they can call go to work bhain and they will be perfectly free front from the disease the theor of this receipt is th that t the bees will consume what honey they have in it them during the fast and all germs of tile the disease will thus be effectually dept destroyed roved tile the contents of the old hive sh should ouid be burned at once so 80 that bees from other colonies may not come to 0 gather ather what houey honey may remain and t alus lus carry the disease home with them brother george A line lincoln who lias has one of tile the best apiaries in town says he has used the following receipt eel pt with excellent resents re IOUI
