shale to the county in such quantities as the county may wish to use in said vicinity for a term of five years for ar cents per load recommended that the offer of mr snow be accepted recommendation adopted und the attorney instructed to draw up an agreement the committee also reported it bad visited the shale beds owned by john H barlow mr barlow would sell shale for 3 cents per load laid over selectman rockwood reported that he had bad investigated the matter of the petition of J L snow and 52 others and und that the major portion of said road was in bountiful city the matter was dismissed for want of jurisdiction mrs J E weaver a widow of south hooper was allowed to retain her land from the operation of a tax sale by paying the amount of taxes and costs without interest provided the fourths days work towards keeping the ditch in repair that being the estimated amount of labor necessary to keep the old ditch up the county to furnish the balance of the labor necessary for a term of two years at which if the ditch is in as good repair as the old ditch was at the time the change was wao made said ditch will be accepted by said owners it if owners are not are willing to leave the town COUNCIL proceedings the city council of farmington city met in regular session bastou last monday evening being present co councilmen uncil rose coombs mayor wilcox presided richard A keyes made a verbal petition to the council to have an ordinance passed giving him a franchise and right of way to lay gas mains in city to supply the town with natural or manufactured gas as he may decide the ordinance or art frt franchise he proposed ed to the council to have passed was prepared by his big attorney it asked that mr air keyes be granted the exclusive and irrevocable right for twenty five years and promised that he would furnish gas at the rate of 50 cents per 1000 cubic feet and agreed to accept the grant within ninety days and to have the gas mains laid to main street within six months or forfeit all rights right this matter was referred to the comi com i mutee on ordinances which reported on the same the following evening the committee changed the price of the gas from 50 to 40 cents and shortened the jimb for acceptance from 90 to 60 days added two sections to the ordinance one providing that a bond be put up tip for the faithful acceptance and recommended that the ordinance be adopted and mr keyes be given twenty four hours to file letters of acceptance with the recorder tiie ordinance was passed mr keyes in speaking on the ordinance said that he meant business and did not want the matter delayed would go right to work as soon as he be could get the right of way said that gas at 50 cents per 1000 cubic feet was equivalent to coal a per ton when the committee reported mr keyes said lie he would gladly accept all the alterations made in the ordinance by the committee except the reduction of the price of gas about which be would have consult other parties interested with willi him before he could give any definite answer in regards to th the bond he be said it was customary in other places for the cities to offer a bonus to induce new enterprises to come but in this case it was reversed but that it did not make any difference to him for he meant business it was wag reported that the water from the hie north cottonwood Cutt onwood creek turned into a new channel made by the city was washing near millers place and that parties residing in that vicinity wanted the city to look of after ter the matter but the council held that the new ditch presided and the same councilmen were present that were in attendance on the pre previous evening bishop and members of the ecclesiastical board were present stated that they bad investigated the matter ot of transferring the deed of the cemetery over to the city but L J who Is posted on these matters had recommended that it be deeded over to the ecclesiastical board of directors the bishop is
