| Show In Idaho Old Christ has struck It and struck it rich too has been a common expression in JC Bayhorso for the past two weeks by nearly c everybody Tho man referred to is nono other than Ingvart Christensen locator and owner of the Silver Brick mine In 1856 Mr Christensen came to California from Denmark He struck the state in its palmiest days and prospered until he was considered welltodo In I860 ho discovered discov-ered Willow creek in Butte county For the next eight years ho speculated in mining i min-ing property and lost heavily in nearly all of his enterprises In 1SC9 he came to White Pine Nevada and speculated there during the excitement but success did not I reward him for his trouble Pioches excitement ex-citement 1S70 to 1874 dealt fairly with him but still he was loser in Nevada Thus twenty years of his early life were f spent mingled with prosperity misfor 1 tuneshardships and self sacrifices untold He spent the winter of 1S7G77 at home in Denmark The Black Hills excitement a found him there in the summer of 1S77 prospecting and exporting For the past ten years ho has been in Idaho continually I February 24 lSSY ho located the Silver t Brick Twice since then the property has I been bonded Last winters bond which was held by Clayton parties and others was the most important one it being nearly E25UJ The bond lease was up May 1 and as the company did not purchase the property prop-erty Mr Christensen started to work it himself He had worked but d short time I until ho struck it rich As near as your correspondent can figure ore in the ground there is about five hundred tons in sight which runs from 103 to 120 ounces of silver and 60 per cent in lead making at least 75000 worth of ore in sight The ore is clear of zinc and antimony and is pronounced pro-nounced the best lead and silver ore in this section of the country Mr Christensen on whose honored brow the storms and I calms of sixty years have passed may once more be called rich for rich he is indeed Clayton MCSICII1Cr NOTES The recent shipment from the Modoo Chief which has recently sprang into prominence on account of striking a very rich vein of oro has created considerable interest throughout Idaho Remington Treweek and others of Salt Lake are to bo congratulated < i f Judge George W Briee and Miss Ellen M Arnold were married In Boise city on the 20th inst Judge Brizee formerly resided re-sided at Rocky Bar and on the arrival of the news here many glasses clinked for the t everlasting happiness and nrosperity of the f judge and his accomplished brideElmore f Bulletin Charles A Clark secretary of the board i Df trade was engaged all of yesterday in mailing 5000 of the 10000 copies of the work issued by the board of trade relating to Boise city and the surrounding country t The idea is to send it to the principal eastern east-ern cities and have it circulated by messenger 1 i mes-senger boys in all hotels reading rooms and other public places Statesman On Wednesday last the employes of the I Custer and Granite mines on Nine Mile went out on a strike Tne trouble seems I e to exist in the difference of the amount paid per day to miners and laborers the latter demanding the same as the former The owners of the mine refuse to concede t to the request and work on both properties has ceased for the present IFcmlncr Xewt Reliable information from the Silver I Fortune mine is very flattering This mine is situated near the head of East Fork and Is owned by Salt Lake parties who have now been working five or six men for about a week and have already opened up a good bcdy of shipping ore The present showing of their mine is so good that they expeot to work all summer and to make large shipments of ore We hope and think they will not be disappointed as East Fork Is ono of the best mineralized sections of the state tr The receipts at the assay office Monday wereabout 4000 The bulk of this sum came from Idaho City having been taken out by gulch miners The Washington and other large companies send bars running run-ning into the thousands Besides the receipts re-ceipts from Boise county some of the do posits came from points along the Snake m river and Baker City Ore The receipts I last month were fully up to expectations but the failing water may have the effect 1 0 of lessoning the gold deposits for August I I |
