Manslaughter The jury in the Griffin murder case came into court at 1030 Saturday and announced an-nounced their verdict after having been out over twentyfour hours The following is a copy of the verdict as handed to the court The People vs James Griffin We the jury empanelled in the above entitled action ac-tion find the defendant James Griffin guilty of voluntary manslaughter J G AXUEKSOS Foreman The verd rendered occasioned no great surprise however as it was the belief of a great many that the jury would decide upon an acquittal The judgment in the case as it stands would give the defendant a term in the penitentiary of not less than one nor more than ten years The defendant was granted till May 30 in whichto mave for anew trial b A HaUciotts Scoundrel Sometime during Sunday night someone with malicious intent cut a watermain in the Grand opera house building in such a manner that the water went pouring out upon the floors and caused damage to the extent of several hundred dollars The box office suffered quite badly This makes about the fifth timethis has occurred and the opera house managers are at a loss to know who the scoundrel is that is doing the malicious council that 0 the ordinance prohibiting the running at large of live stock was not enforced The majority of the property owners from Washingtoa to Quincy avenues on Twentyfifth street asked to have the sewer system extended in that direction Thoproperty owners on Lincoln avenue fromTwentyeighth to Thirtieth streets complained of the fearful condition of the street and asked to have the same graded I 1 and put in passable condition Louis Lederer assignee asked for a rebate on an auction license taken out for a term of one year Mr Lederer stated in bis petition that he had endeavored to auction auc-tion two days and only disposing of 1340 worth of goods he decided to discontinue therefore the license doing him no material mate-rial good The property holders in the block bounded Lincoln and Grant avenues and Twentysixth and Twentyseventh streets asked to have the drain running through the block which is choked up repaired The committee on public buildings and grounds reported More Injunctions Active work was again begun yesterday on the electric street railways A large gang of men began laying double tracks between Twentyfourth and Twentyfifth streets on Wall avenue andimprovements I were being made on other parts of the lines It is said that all the company has been waiting for within the last ten days is the necessary material About 250 men were at work Later in the afternoon H H Henderson of the HendersonGarretsonBrinker company com-pany issued an injunction against H M Beardsley and others the company dong the work restraining them from constructing construct-ing a double track on Wall avenue The injunction however was not paid any attention at-tention to and up to G oclock the men were at work Something startling may develop today Another lively
