kidnapping E M Byers of Pittsburg a membler of a wealthy iron house of that city The warrant was worn t by Mrs Byers Shields arrivedvin Chicago Chi-cago yesterday and registered at the i hotel under an assumed name After his arrest hfe was admitted to bal in 10000 Attorney George S Baker representing Mrs Byers says that last May Shields brought Byers from Pitts burg to Chicago and he was placed in charge of Dr Tallman at the Great Nor thfern hotel that by various artifices I Byers temporarily weak mind was inflamed in-flamed against his wife who for three months vainly tried to ascertain his whereabouts Letters written her by her husband ere never ent After a long search Byers was found In St Paul in charge of a female nurse and returned with his wife to Chicago only to be again taken away by Dr Tallman during the illness o Mrs Byer This time Tallman and the nurse look Byers to Montreal and registered unlor false names Since then Byers has been taken to different parts of tae country and though he has drawn but little money from the firm abiut 15000 has been supplied from some source and sent to his account Baker says Byers wants to go his wife but is held in duress dur-ess essDr Dr Tallman ridicules the story of abduction and of Byers insanity He says owing to his wifes peculiarities Byers was unable to live with her and he became a sufferer from nervous prostration On returning to St Paul he tried to live with her and did for fourteen days but could stand it no longer and told Tallman he was going go-ing away where he would have a chance to get well Since then Tallman ha not seen him but once His friends know where leis le-is fr he writes them occasionally Shields left today for Pittsfaurg but will return on Wednesday when the case is to be was released this afternoon just in time to catch the fast train for Brooklyn Two members mem-bers of the Sullivan company this morning got into a fight at the West house and Sullivan who interferred
