Show DOLK LABORER STRI A General Walkout of All Union Hands Expected HIGHER WAGES DEMANDED The Sailors and Firemens Union ding d-ing the Dock Laborers Dock Men at Liverpool and Shields Organizing Or-ganizing to Assist tho Strikers Ship Owners Will Support the Masters HULL England April 11It looks very much as i the dock laborers strike is about to prove a failure A lot of nonunion non-union men were put to work this morning morn-ing under police and military protection making tho whole number of nonunion men who have taken the places of strikers 2000 This afternoon the strikers show evidences of weakening as a number oi them applied for and were given work The firms in the lumbor carrying trade whose vessels have lain Idle since the strike began notified their men that unless un-less they return to work at once their places will be filled with nonunionists Joseph Wilson president of the Sailors and Firemens union In London is taking tak-ing an active part in behalf of the strikers at Hull He has gone to Cardiff to enlist dock laborers and sailors and firemens unions in their behalf He has great influence with the men and there is every evidence that the shipuing trade of Cardiff is about to become involved in a struggle with the sailors and firemens unions The latter have demanded an increase of wages to go into effect today and threaten t block the sailing of every vessel unless the demands de-mands are complied with The dock laborers at Liverpool Shields and elsewhere are organizing to assist the strikera here The ship owners federation federa-tion is organizing to support the masters I looks as i it would be a general strike of all union hands in the shipping trade |
