Show WHISKERED WOMAN It was all well for Judge Goodwin to make fun of several prominent gentlemens pictures which appeared in last Sundays HERALD I expect THE HERALD would have produced a picture of the judge himself him-self at tho time he was begging for votes but his changes of position and contortions of the face were too fast for any modern sketch artist to catcb S The official organ of a few Liberals callIng call-Ing themselves Democrats the Tribune announces an-nounces that they have concluded to call themsalves Silver Tips and will give a banquet ia January If they take their name from the silver tip bear it is most appropriate as this race of bears is almost extinct They may however have selected se-lected that name for other causes I know of one of these gentlemen that accepted of a 10000 silver tip once upon a time Of iII iI-I heard a prominent business man and a Liberal say yesterday I am through with the Liberal party or any other party so far as city affairs are concerned Ive compared com-pared the preceding administration with the present one and believe there are no odds in favor of the present one to say the least Had the old council seen fit to spend the amount of money that the present one has I believe the money would have gone further and the people would have I been hotter satisfied The members of the old council attended the meetings regularly regu-larly none of them resigned and there I were no fist fights nor personalities in dulged in during their entire term To put it right they all sawed wood in the interest inter-est of the city and they left over a quarter of a million dol ars In the treasury for the t disposal of their successors Since then this surplus has all been spent as well as the regular city revenue including tho city taxes Besides this I notice the I present council has borrowed by bonding over a half million dollars This has also I been spent Last year it spent within a few dollars of a million t and this year it will spend even more if it keeps up its record About three weeks ago I noticed only the small sum of I some 555000 reported on hand in the treasury treas-ury and since then I see the council has appropriated nearly that amount so I judge there isnt much left in the city till The church had the credit of running the old I council and If that is so I wish to Christ it would run this one So far as I am concerned con-cerned if agood citizens ticket is put in the field in February I shall vote it It is time we were looking at things in a sensible sensi-ble manner and judge of xnpns worth as city officials by their merits instead of by their astuteness in carrying a torch A frisky feeling comet over mo every time I think of what will happen when some day the Tribune will change policy and announce itself openly as a strict Republican Re-publican sheet What then will become o f I the G O L Pt At this critical juncture I want to throw my kodak on such grand old Democrats as Mr Henry Barnes FInancier Fi-nancier Duke the Hon Mr Pendergast and on Orlando the 1st I wonder if they will look wet During the past week the saloon associa tion held a meeting at the Walker house with the view of deciding upon the course it shall persue relative to the February election Committees were appointed etc and an adjournment was taken pend InK theIr report This is well and good It la perfectly proper for these men to meet and consider their interests While as yet no action has been taken by this body I suggest it be well for it to consider care fully what are actually Its interests I learn there are some one hundred saloono in the city and that among them some are known as dives Lot me ask the associa tion this question viz Is the man that runs a dive admitted to full fellowship in the association Has he tho same privi leges and voice in es the deliberation as some of the saloon men of the city who run orderly reputable houses have good families and have the citys interests at heart in common with tho merchant or banker This organization has an oppor tunity to relieve itself of an odium that is flung at it constantly which to the effeot that it desires to perpetuate and increase vice and crime in midst our Let the respectable re-spectable element of this organization show its hand by avowing its intention of supporting none other than a reputable ticket in February Let it declare to vote only for men of character be he Mormon Jew or Gentile V The real estate fraternity like all fra ternities is not devoid of its cranks We bear quite frequently of their writing to some guilable chap east that on account of Liberal possession every thing is rushing and real estate is getting more and more in damand Lots see what there is In it Lets take the
