of Ground Within a Stones Throw of the James River and Near the Tomb of President Monroe BICEMOND Va May 3OSpeelal1 It is believed that there will be as many people here tomorrow the day set for the reinterment of Jefferson Jef-ferson Davis remains re-mains as there mans were when the Lee monument was unveiled un-veiled The formation forma-tion of the parade will be as follows I Infantry artijlery I 1Lf4 three battalions cavalry six troops General John B AViS Gordon chief marshal mar-shal and staff the caisson forming the catafalque bearing the remains active and honorable pall bearers including the New Orleans escort as a guard of honor the family accompanied by Governor McKlnney and Major Ellyson in carriages car-riages MajorGeneral Thomas A Brander and veteran staff confederate confed-erate camps and other veterans Hollywood Oakwopd and the Hebrew He-brew Memorial associations citizen Beaching Hollywood the infantry will march directly to the graveand form a square around it to keep the crowd at a respectful distance The artillery and cavalry will debouch to the right and take positions in Bwerview cemetery overlooking over-looking the Davis section while the rear of the column will continue through Hollywood lywoodto the place of burial Funeral guns will be fired during the morning at intervals of fifteen minutes and the bells of the city will toll during the march of the procession Many of the residences along the line have been draped and the pillars of St Pauls church have been dressed in mourning The Davis Circle Cir-cle the section in which Mr Davis will be buried ia in the northwestern Fart of Hollywood It t stands upon a high plateau and within a stones throw of the muddy James river which flows by in its course to Richmond = Rich-mond The circle covers about seven tyfive square feet of ground and is neatly laid off and sodded 1 with the grave near the center Standing on the north and soath borders of the circle are two wellgrown oak trees which with a neighboring tombstone seem fo stand a lonely sentinels The grave of the Confederate chieftain will be almost in a direct line with and about 300 yards north of the somewhat oldlooking but handsome tomb of President Pres-ident Monroe The latter stands upon somewhat more elevated ground than the Davis section Between these two points and but a few yards away from the tomb of Monroe is the tiny mound which tells the spot where little Joe Davis body lies This was the son of Mr Davis who was killed by falling from the rear balcony of the Confederate White House during the war The white headstone bears an inscription in-scription which tells it is a memento ot the affection of the children of the then Confederate capital for the dead boy of the chief magistrate The body is to be removed and placed by the side or near the fathers grave After the procession has been halted in the cemetery and the various organizations organiza-tions have been assigned to the positions t GENERAL JOHN B GORDON they will occupy the band will play a dirge composed by Professor Benhart of this city Bishop Hugh Miller Thompson Thomp-son of Mississippi will read a selection from the Scriptures after which the hymn How Firm a Foundation will be sung the lines being read by the Rev Dr W W Landruin of the Second Baptist Bap-tist church The Rev Moses D Hoge pastor of the Second Presbyterian church will offer a player The invocation will be followed oy the reinterment The benediction will be pronounced by the Rev Dr O S Barton rector of Christ church Norfolk Va who was particularly attentive to Mr Davis while he was imprisoned at Fortress Monroe As the crowd disperses salvos of artillery artil-lery will be fired The grave will not ba closed in public view as it will require some time to arrange the mound The interior will be walled with colored brick The Ladies Hollywood association will have their annual memorial exercises exer-cises on Gettysburg hill immediately after the service at the grave There will be no address at either place The funeral train was received at every station through the day by large crowds of peonle with military arid civic honors Greenville S C and Durham there were especial demonstrations When Raleigh was reached stores were closed houses draped in mourning and bells were tolled Military and veteran organizations were present with a funeral car The casket was placed urn it and taken the capitol People filed by in a constant stream until the journey was resumed re-sumed Governor Carr and staff accompanied the train to Danville At Beidsville Governor McKenn and stair joined the train Everywhere flowers were showered into the funeral car The train is expected ex-pected to reach Richmond bout 230 am and the casket
