Show FLOODS IN THE EAST I Nebraska Michigan and New York Partly CoveredWith Water Railway Traffic Abandoned Business Partially Suspended and Heavy Damage Inflicted OMAHA March 11Reports from the North and South Platte country received at railroad headquarters today show that heav rains are playing havoc with railroad rail-road property along the North Platte South Plate and Loup rivers Bridges are being torn from their moorings by drifting drift-ing ice and gorges are damming water so the tracks are inundated and some parts of the Burlington Missouri and Union Pacific are already abandoned until the waters recede Thirty bridges along branches of the Union Pacific Burlington and Fremont Elkhorn and Missouri Valley roads are either washed away or undermined so as to make the crossings dangerous On the Union Pacific bridges and approaches ap-proaches are slightly damaged but the traffic of the road is not interrupted Through train service is conducted byway by-way of Lincoln and Grand Island with comparatively little delay The damage done by the water and ice will be repaired by Monday and traffic resumed on the main line I |
